Wildfire Land Preparation | Hillsides & Creek BottomsThe environmental conditions in California and much of the west and midwest are prone to droughts and dry spells, which equal a longer fire season. With less rain creating dry conditions, reducing fire fuel or combustible materials is crucial work for cities and utilities.
In preparation for wildfire season, Jerad and his crew with Hamilton Land Services spend many hours maintaining fire breaks and defensible space by mowing down brush and vegetation.
Clearing land in Northern California means working on hillsides, creek bottoms, and underneath trees so that the fire does not reach the trees and spread. Regular mowing is key to keeping the fire out of the trees.
Jerad says more cities and residences are moving to the hills and foothills, so maintaining these areas poses a challenge. The Ventrac 4500 is ideal for getting into places that other pieces of equipment cannot, such as under bushes and tree limbs. And with the dual wheels installed, a Ventrac 4500 can maintain hills up to 30 degrees in slope.
Places such as this walking path with steep ditches on either side are entirely inaccessible with any other tractor but the Ventrac. Able to successfully get into areas that were unreachable before and cut down manpower, Jerad’s fleet of Ventracs can find traction and stability on steep hills like these.
Maintaining land like this allows the city the comfort of knowing that everything is cleared and cleaned for fire season. They also really like seeing the results that the Ventrac leaves behind, which is a cleaner and more complete landscape than others.
The main goal for Jerad and his crew is to reduce the amount of fire fuel on the ground, and Ventrac can help them do that.
